Welcome to the Lancashire Schools Golf Association website!
This Association is for all Schools in Lancashire with golfers who have handicaps. The Season begins in September with a Team Knock Out Competition, followed by 4 Regional Competitions, U/15 Championship and a Championship event during the spring and summer.
Look on the membership page to see if your School has joined.
The Association was founded in 1981 to enable pupils to take part in inter School Golf Competitions and to then be eligible to compete in the North of England Schools Championships and the English Schools Golf Association Championship.
Team Knock Out Competition
This event runs from October to April and is a match play team event with 3 players on each School team. A School or College may enter up to 4 teams. The winners and runners up of this Competition represent Lancashire Schools at the English Schools Team Championships Finals.
Lancashire is split into 4 Regions, North, East, South East, and South West which all have a qualifying Competition in the Spring. The winners from each Region may be selected for the North of England Schools Championships, which is a 36 hole Scratch event. The top ten finishers in this event would then go onto the English Schools finals.
In June a U/15 Championship takes place, for pupils in Year 10 and below. Handicap limits here are 28 for boys and 36 for girls. The winners from this event may be selected to play in the English Schools U/16 finals.
In July the Lancashire Schools Championship is held for pupils on 18 handicap and under for boys, 36 and under for girls. This competition has individual and team trophies.
To be eligible to play in the competitions, pupils need to be in full time education and have a handicap of 28 and below for boys and 36 and below for girls.
Look on the Entry Forms tab to download each entry form for the different competitions.
Knock Out Competition 2015
The winning team from each of the four Sections will play in the Finals Day, over 36 holes, at a venue and date to be decided in May 2015. The Champions and Runners-up will be eligible to compete in the National Team Championship Finals in July 2015. Carr Hill High School are the 2014 Champions.
There will be no extensions on time to play matches, although we will naturally be sympathetic if there are valid reasons for being unable to fulfil a fixture, i.e. adverse weather conditions. The home Team needs to contact the opponents immediately, to arrange a mutually agreeable date and venue. Away teams that have not been contacted within a reasonable time should make the call.
We are not in the habit of disqualifying teams but the whole competition relies on people making the effort to get in touch and to play within the dates shown.
Please inform me of results immediately after the match.
The competition is match play for each pair with ¾ difference in handicaps. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS DUE TO THE SHORTENED COURSES THROUGHOUT THE WINTER MONTHS. Verify these before play commences. The teams must go out in handicap order with the lowest player going out first. A player playing on his home course must concede 1 courtesy shot after the 3/4 difference has been calculated. Girls may play against boys in this competition. A girl playing against a boy must be given courtesy shots equal to the difference between the ladies and mens S.S.S. for the course after the 3/4 difference has been calculated. Girls must play off the Red tees and boys off the yellow/white tees, the strokes given to be taken off the mens card. The Handicap limit is 28 for boys and 36 for girls.
If a match is tied after 18 holes, the game should be decided by sudden death starting at the first hole.
If you have more than one Team in the K.O. you may put your players in any team you chose but they must then remain in that team throughout the Competition.
Each team MUST have a responsible adult, approved by the School/College, at the course while the match is being played.
Thank you in advance for your co operation. Please contact me if you have any queries.
Good luck to all teams.
